Festival de la Palabra We started our annual event on 2009 to support diversification in readership , dialogues and the growth of open society practices through literature and free expression. Since then we have celebrated The Word/ Festival de la Palabra in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with parallel activities in many towns in the island as well as in New York. The Word/ Festival de la Palabra promotes readership of Puerto Rican Literature and its Diasporas. For an entire week, San Juan transforms into an international meeting point for the lovers of literature. Since 2009, 525 authors from 50 different countries have visited the island , its schools and communities. Our Festival has captured the attention of journals such as The New York Times, El País (Spain), El Clarín (Argentina) and many others. Six thousand five hundred children, one thousand teachers, and 18,000 people visit el Festival de la Palabra every year.
